Horizon COVID-19 Information

Dear Horizon Families,

The Premier, the Hon Steven Marshall and the Chief Public Health Officer, Professor Nicola Spurrier, have

announced a range of changes to the start of the 2022 school year in order to help minimise the peak of COVID-19

cases in South Australia and undue strain on the SA Health system.

Consequently, there will be a staged return to Horizon Christian School over the first two weeks of term.

Face-to-face learning has been prioritised for our youngest learners and for specific year levels that are transitioning.

Remote learning will be provided for all other year levels.

At this stage, the following arrangements will apply at Horizon.

Dates for the start of Term 1:

Monday 31st January – staff preparation day

Tuesday 1st February – staff preparation day

Wednesday 2nd February – school and bus services resume

Face to face learning for: Foundation, Year 1, Year 7, Year 8 and Year 12 students

Remote learning for: Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6, Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 students.

Monday 14th February – planned return of face-to-face learning for all year levels

Preparation days (31st January and 1st February) will be used by our staff to prepare for remote learning and the

change to the start of Term 1.

Face-to-face learning will be provided for Foundation, Year 1, Year 7, Year 8 and Year 12 students, starting

Wednesday 2nd February. If you choose to keep your child at home, or if they are required to isolate, ‘Horizon@Home’

(our school based remote learning program) will not be offered for students in these year levels. However, students

will continue to have access to lesson content via Canvas after it has been delivered face-to-face.

Remote Learning will be provided for students in Years 2 to 6 and Years 9 to 11 from February 2nd.

If you are recognised as an Essential Worker, are required to attend your workplace and do not have any other

appropriate supervision for your children participating in remote learning, they can attend school and will be

supervised in combined classes as they complete their remote learning program. Please note, parents recognised as

essential workers must contact the school between Monday 24th January and Friday 28th January to register your

child for supervision.

Students with additional learning needs or requirements will be supported by our Student Engagement and Learning

team. Further information will be provided next week to parents regarding this support.

Minimising the spread of COVID-19

Based on SA Health advice, the following measures will be put in place to minimise the spread of COVID-19:

  • Children must be kept home if they are at all unwell
  • Masks are required for all adults when indoors (except for teachers and support staff when giving direct instruction)
  • Masks are strongly recommended for students in Years 7 to 12 when indoors and strongly encouraged for children in Years 3 to 6 when indoors
  • Masks are strongly recommended for all student bus travellers
  • Natural ventilation will be maximised by leaving doors/windows open, continued use of air conditioning where possible
  • Outdoor learning will be in place where appropriate
  • Physical distancing requirements will be maintained where possible
  • Non-essential visitors will be limited on site (‘essential visitors’ includes allied health professionals, and those critical to school operations)
  • Extra cleaning arrangements will continue.

Students New to Horizon

We will work with parents of students who are starting Foundation and Year 1 to make sure you are able to come on

site to be part of your child’s transition (in a COVID safe way).

Parents and students new to Horizon will be contacted by Home Group teachers in the first week of school to

welcome you to our school community. If you have any questions, please contact front office staff.

Camps, Excursions and Events

There will be a cancellation and/or temporary postponement of the following activities (until at least Week 4 of term):

o New parent’s morning tea

o Year 12 Camp

o Meet and Greet

o Swimming lessons

o Excursions and incursions

o Interschool sport events

o Assemblies

Horizon@Home (Remote Learning)

An information package will be emailed to parents prior to February 2nd with instructions and guidelines to support

learning with Horizon@Home. If your child does not have access to a computer or the internet, please contact the

front office for support.

Uniform

Unfortunately supply of our new school uniforms have been delayed due to a labour shortage in the transit of the

order. We are hopeful the order will arrive prior to our February 14th student return date. Further information will be

provided to families as it becomes available. Students new to Horizon and all Foundation students are permitted to

wear suitable casual clothes until new uniforms are have arrived. Students previously enrolled at Horizon will continue

to wear PE uniform or the formal summer uniform until the order of new uniforms arrives.

We appreciate that you may have some questions about these changes. Further information will be provided should

recommendations or directives change. Front office staff will be available to take enquiries from Monday 24th January.

Thank you for your understanding and patience in this challenging time. We look forward to seeing your child face-toface

or welcoming them online to start the school year. I have every confidence that as we continue working together

in God’s school, He will watch over our steps.

Blessings,

Mike Clisby
